Jim Franklin's Shakuhachi Works! Includes Japanese commentary! This is a collection of shakuhachi master performer Jim Franklin's own compositions. Franklin studied composition and folk music in Australia, Germany, and the Netherlands. He later studied in Japan under Teruo Furuya and Katsuya Yokoyama, and in 1996 received a teacher's diploma from Yokoyama. Since then, he has been combining shakuhachi and live electronics in his compositions and performances, drawing inspiration from Buddhist thought and experience as well as the world of Zen. All of his works are semi-structured improvisations, in which he attempts to perform shakuhachi + live electronics simultaneously (shakuhachi sound processed electronically in real time).
