After holding the distinguished positions of Kapellmeister of the City Theatre of Lübeck and the Theatre of Bremen, General Music Director of the Orchestra and Opera of Altenburg-Gera, Chief Conductor of the Stuttgart Philharmonic Orchestra, General Music Director of the City of Stuttgart, and Principal Guest Conductor of the Basel Opera, Gabriele Feltz has continued his distinguished career as General Music Director of the City of Dortmund and Chief Guest Conductor of the Basel Opera in 2013/14. Since the 2013/14 season, Gabriele Felz has been the General Music Director of the city of Dortmund and Principal Conductor of the Dortmund Philharmonic Orchestra. His Mahler symphony cycle with the Stuttgart Philharmonic, for which he served as principal conductor from 2003 to 2013, was described by the venerable online review site infodad.com as "the most unusual and controversial cycle of the last few years.
