DAVID CUNNINGHAM, a genius known for his work with THIS HEAT and as THE FLYING LIZARDS, and PETER GORDON, a producer/sax player who should be remembered with ARTHUR RUSSELL in the late 70's New York underground scene that connected disco/house from NO WAVE. The two hit it off immediately after producing THE FLYING LIZARDS' second album "FOURTH WALL", and spent almost two years between 1981 and 1983 in studios all over Europe. The Yellow Box" was recorded at studios around Europe over a period of two years between 1981 and 1983. The masterpiece, which was finally released on Cunningham's PIANO label in 1996, is now available for the first time on vinyl for the long-awaited WEEK-END RECORDS! The Yellow Box" is a miraculous product that still shines unclassifiable even after 40 years, with its cinematic scale, drifting drones, beautiful melodies, eerie minimalism, Kraftwerk-like synthesizers, looping voices, and shifting swells of sound interwoven throughout the entire piece.It is a marvelous work that, in the 1980s, at a time when no one had even considered such a broad and integrated musical concept, was already practicing an attempt to move beyond it. This practice is one of the compelling reasons why it was finally released in 1996 after being shelved for more than a decade, and it is also proof that it still has a cult following.
