GAISTER, the trio of Olivia Salvadori, Akihide Monna, and Coby Say, releases their self-titled LP on AD 93! The record captures the embodiment of an encounter, one moment in the trio's ongoing relationship as artists communicating with each other through sound, voice, and music.After touring in the same circles at each other's shows in London around 2016, Say and Salvadori eventually crossed paths in In 2017, Say joined Salvadori's artistic collective Tutto Questo Sentire and began working together, doing a residency in Capalbio, in the southernmost part of Tuscany, Italy. The two eventually joined forces with Akihide Monna (Bo Ningen) and performed together at the Camden Arts Center on Cork Street in London in 2019.When the three come together, something new is born, something that has been dormant like a geyser in Iceland drawn out.The setting for this special encounter between the three is integral to the tone, process, and emotion of the album. The album was recorded at Greenhouse Studios in Iceland, where the three formed a series of intuitions. They discussed how nature can provide guidelines in the choice of instruments, their materials, and associated rhythms; the voice as a sculptural element; and pure sound and language. Monna describes her experience during the short but intensive recording period. The sounds flowed naturally, as if pulling at each other's hearts and minds with strange internal connections and sensations. Something pure was brought out." The word "Geister" itself was coined from the German word "Geist," meaning "spirit," and was given a sound all its own. Despite their different mother tongues (Italian, Japanese, and English), musical genres, and identities, purity, spirit, and essence are drawn from this trio, and something new is born. (1/2)
