Description:
Mozart's Unknown Opera, "Tamos, King of Egypt," directed by Carlus Padrissa, a founding member of the Catalan theater group La Fra dels Baus, performed at Felsenwright Schule during the 2019 Mozart Week Live Mozart's little-known opera "Tamos, King of Egypt," directed by Carles Padrissa. Composed in 1773 as incidental music (two choruses and five interludes) to a work by the poet Tobias Philipp Gebler (1726-1786). It was later rewritten in its present form for a production by the Böhm troupe in 1779. Gebhler, a Freemason, was a cardinal advisor and deputy director of the Bohemian Court Household Office. Gebhler was not satisfied with the musician Zattler, whom he had commissioned to compose a new work, so he asked Mozart to write a new work for him. The play, set in an Egyptian temple, shares the same subject matter as "The Magic Flute" and is a grand drama inspired by the novel "Setos" by the French priest Jean Terrasson. In this production, Carles Padrissa has created an intriguing new structure by adding arias from "The Magic Flute" and "Zeide" to "Thamos, King of Egypt". The special eye-catching stage effects and eerie lighting immerse the audience in a futuristic atmosphere, while an algorithmic composition combining electronic sounds, telephone tones, and choral music is repeated like a light motif. The play will also feature a projection of Antonin Artaud's poetry on the stage, bringing new life to the work through a fusion of literature. In the play, Tamos says: "Nature evolves, art advances it, poetry sings it, and music is its music. Nature evolves, art advances it, poetry sings it, and music writes its story. It is the same mutation that exists in man! This work, "T.H.A.M.O.S.," is a perfect example of these words. The Mexican conductor Alondra de la Parra and Camerata Salzburg performed it to perfection. The King Meneses of Egypt is played by René Parpe, a German star singer who has been called one of the best bass singers of our time, while the role of Tardis is played by Fatma Said, a remarkable soprano from Egypt, and Nattapong Tamachi, a tenor from Thailand, all of whom are top musicians from around the world. The performers' diverse cultural backgrounds have created a completely new stage that combines music, dance, and literature. King International Inc.
