Description:
Veteran saxophonist Dave Liebman's newest release is a one-horn quartet featuring Kenny Warner, Dave Holland, and Jack DeJohnette! This is improvised music at the highest level of maturity by true improvisers who are both spiritually liberated and technically accomplished! Dave Liebman, a veteran musician who continues to create with ambition, presents a new one-horn quartet featuring Kenny Warner (p), Dave Holland (b), and Jack DeJohnette (ds)! The entire piece is free improvisational. It has been about 50 years since Liebman met Holland and DeJohnette in the late 60s. According to Liebman, "I have to say, we have definitely improved over the last few decades." We've definitely improved over the years, especially when we play "free jazz. We play less, softer, and above all, show the highest level of maturity in our ability to express our feelings." He added, "For this recording, I was fortunate to have Kenny Warner join Jack and Dave in the rhythm section, as he fit the very open and free conception I was looking for." He said.Kenny Warner played with Holland and DeJohnette in a trio on his album "A Delicate Balance" (1998). As the title suggests, the album is based on the concept of "fire," and all the songs are named after fire, but the content is free improvisation. The title track, "Fire," in particular, is a passionate performance lasting more than 30 minutes." Sparks" becomes "Flames," then "Inferno," and only "Ashes" remains as a destructive legacy of fire. The dizzying interplay is the work of a true improviser who is both mentally liberated and technically accomplished. The music never becomes too much, but changes flexibly in tone, dynamics, thickness of sound, rhythm, and speed, and is truly an improvisational ensemble of the highest level of maturity. The title of this film, "Fire," is one of the four elements (Air, Fire, Water, and Earth), and is the third film in The elements series, following "Water: Giver Of Life" (1999) with Pat Metheny and "Air" (2011). This is the third film in The elements series, following "Water: Giver Of Life" (1999) with Pat Metheny and "Air" (2011).
