Description:
A performance that conveys the creativity and passion of 1980s jazz! Recorded April 17 and 18, 1989 at Clinton Studios in New York City, where artists such as Miles Davis, Bill Evans, and McCoy Tyner have recorded. Members of the band were Randy and Michael Brecker, John Scofield, George Mraz, and Adam Nussbaum. Although this band was not a purely regular band, it was a special group that Richie Bailark brought together when he wanted to form his own expression, including originals from that era. The first track leaves no doubt as to how well the members communicated with each other. Adam Nussbaum's strong rhythms. George Mraz, who creates lines as if he were a stallion. Michael Brecker, who has always positioned himself in the direct lineage of Coltrane, and Randy Brecker, who also flies high notes at great speed. John Scofield, who makes outgoing phrases sound pop. And Richie Baillyak, the main character who plays modal phrases with sharp rhythms. This sound is truly 80's! Just in the first song, a certain spirituality of the mainstream jazz of this era overflows. The same is true, for example, of the famous standard "You Don't Know What Love Is," which is played slowly as a ballad. The band's identity overflows in the up-tempo, fast-moving arrangement of this song, which is often played as a slow ballad. However, along with the power of these performances, it is the ballads that are most appealing to the ear. For example, Bernstein's "Some Other Time" (CD2-M4), performed by the trio, is full of the lyricism of Baillyak, who is said to be the legitimate successor of Evans. The compassionate performance of Baillyak's classic "Sunday Song," performed by Michael Brecker, Baillyak, and Mraz, is beautiful enough to bring tears to the audience's eyes. There are two versions of this song, one live and the other in the studio, and it is a must-hear track for fans of Michael Brecker's sensitive ballad playing. The duo performance of "My Funny Valentine" with Randy Brecker is dedicated to Chet Baker. Inborn," performed by an irregular drumless trio, is also a cathartic and cleansing experience. Some of the studio recordings were previously released on CD, but they have long since been out of print, so this time, a completely unreleased live version is also included. The liner notes were written by Richie Bylak himself, and the release is dedicated to Michael Brecker and the late John Abercrombie.
