He found timeless answers in Casals and the composers who inspired him or adopted his ideas, and brought them together in one album.The program begins with Bach (the Gamba Sonata, not the Suite for Unaccompanied Cello, I dare say), Messiaen, Granados, Beethoven, Ysaye, and concludes with another Casals' eponymous "Bird Song" with a wish for peace. Philipp Spelius was born in Berlin in 2003, began playing the cello at the age of 8 with Ulrich Foss, studied at the Berlin University of the Arts with Wolfgang Emanuel Schmidt, made his debut at Carnegie Hall in New York in 2022, received the ICMA (International Classical Music Awards) 2020's " Discovery Prize, a silver medal at the Eurovision Young Musicians Competition, and the Fanny Mendelssohn Prize 2023, and won the cello category of the German Music Competition 2023, one of the most important competitions for young musicians in Germany.
