Cantatas for Pentecost by S. Kuiken & La Petite BandThis is the 16th installment of Kuiken's popular OVPP (One Voice Per Part = one person per part) cantata series. This time, the cantatas are for the three days of Pentecost and the Feast of the Holy Trinity. Pentecost is one of the most important holidays in the church calendar. This feast commemorates the event that occurred after Christ's ascension, when the Holy Spirit descended on 120 believers who had gathered to pray, and they began to speak in various languages of the world, thus spreading the teachings of Christ to the world. Cantata No. 34, the first day of the festival, is a condensation of Bach's flamboyant side and is one of the masterpieces among all his cantatas. It is a three-dimensional, bright, and full piece with active tempi, and is a perfect match for Kuijken's fresh and breathtaking musicianship. Cantata No. 173 on the second day is a piece with a full instrumental part, lightly supporting the soloist.Cantata No. 184, the third day of the festival, features a beautiful dance aria.
