Description:

Andris Nelsons & the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra's richly intense Tchaikovsky Manfred Symphony & Slavonic Marches Andris Nelsons will retire from his post as Music Director after six years and nine months in the position, following a performance with the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in June 2015. His latest album, with a small army at the helm, will feature Tchaikovsky, a work in which Nelsons is very much at home. The "Manfred Symphony" and "Slavonic March" were recorded live at a concert held in September 2013 at the Symphony Hall in his home base in Birmingham. Inspired by the English poet Byron's dramatic poem of the same name, the "Manfred Symphony" was written between the 4th and 5th symphonies, and is a title piece that falls somewhere between a symphonic poem and a symphony. The complete works are entitled, in order, "Manfred Wandering in the Alps," "Mountain Spirits of the Alps," "Life of a Pastor," and "The Underground Palace of Arimana," and their highly romantic and dramatic style is truly suited to Nelsons. Nelsons has established good relationships with prestigious orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic and the Concertgebouw Orchestra, and his reputation has been growing rapidly in recent years, but it is well known that he is at his most spontaneous and spontaneous when he meets the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, which has established a foothold for his current breakthrough. The three major works of the latter half of the 20th century by this duo were performed by the City Orchestra of Birmingham. As was the case with the recording of the three major symphonies of the latter half of the 20th century by this duo, the "Slavic March" coupling is also expected to deliver a passionate performance full of scale and power. <Andris Nelsons was born in 1978 in Riga, Latvia. His mother founded the first Latvian ancient music ensemble, and his father was a choral conductor, cellist, and teacher. As a boy, he studied as a trumpet player and bass-baritone singer. He studied conducting under Alexander Titov in St. Petersburg and took master classes with Neeme Järvi and Jorma Panula. In October 2007, at the young age of 29 (after Simon Rattle's 25), he was named Principal Conductor and 12th Music Director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra, a position he held until September 2008. He was appointed as the Chief Conductor and the 12th Music Director of the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra in September 2008. In parallel, he has expanded his activities in both concert and opera houses, appearing with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, Tonhalle Zurich, Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, Staatskapelle Berlin, Orchestre National de France, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Vienna State Opera, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Metropolitan Opera She has also made guest appearances at the Vienna State Opera, the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden, the Metropolitan Opera, and the Bayreuth Opera. In June 2015, he will return to Birmingham Symphony Hall for his farewell performance of Mahler's Symphony No. 3 and the choral work "The Lake Awakes at Dawn" by Eriks Echtenwaltz from his native Latvia, in a farewell concert at the Birmingham Symphony Hall. Symphony No. 3 and the choral work "The Lake Awakes at Dawn" by Erichus Eschenwaldt from his native Latvia. King International.
