Stemme, Botha, Welser-Möst!!! There is no better combination right now than "Die Walküre" Act I. On December 2, 2007, ORFEO released a recording of Act I of the first day of the new production of "Die Walküre" by Sven-Erik Bechtloff at the Vienna State Opera. It features Nina Stemme as Sieglinde and Johan Botha as Siegmund, two of the best people you can think of today. In addition, the conductor was Franz Welser-Möst, who was to be appointed music director in 2010. In many ways, this was a much-talked-about performance. On the first day, however, Wotan's Juha Uusitalo was unable to sing in the second act due to a malfunction and had to be replaced. Therefore, only the first act was released here as well.For a Wagner whose bicentennial year is 2013, there are not many new recordings of Wagner's music that have appeared on CD, but this "Die Walküre" Act I should quench your thirst for such recordings.
