Popp's Lieder Recital! From Schubert to Schoenberg! This is a live recording of a Lieder recital given by Lucia Popp (1939-1993) in July 1984 at Munich's historic Kvilier Theater. 44-year-old Popp was approaching the age of maturity. Her warm, fresh and beautiful voice with a matured taste gives us a sense of security that envelops us. The program is centered on Schubert, his specialty, with R. Strauss and Schoenberg added to the mix. Popp seems to have preferred Schoenberg's Four Romances Op.2, which he sang in a recital at the Edinburgh Festival the previous year (BBCL 4148). In this live performance in Munich, the small theater gives a strong sense of unity with the audience, and you feel as if you are in the theater yourself while listening to the CD. King International
