The third installment of the popular Roth-led SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden & Freiburg Richard Strauss Symphonic Poems Series "Zarathustra" & "From Italy" The Strauss Symphonic Poems Series, promoted by Chief Conductor François-Xavier Roth, who leads the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden & Freiburg. In 2014, the 150th anniversary of the composer's birth, Strauss will perform "Zarathustra" and the symphonic fantasy "From Italia". Both were recorded live at concerts in Freiburg in September 2013 and February 2014, in that order. As can be seen from the previous two albums in the series, Roth has always taken the opportunity to examine the performance program in parallel with the actual performance and to delve deeper into the interpretation of the program. The case of "Tsara" also shows the careful preparation that went into this project.Lotto conducted the BBC National Orchestra of Wales in May 2013 and also conducted the SWR Symphony Orchestra Baden-Baden & Freiburg at the Berlioz Festival in La Côte-Saint-Tendre, France, in August 2013. The recording also seems to have a synergistic effect with the performances, as he will conduct the Danish National Symphony Orchestra in April 2014 and the Gürzenich Orchestra in Cologne in September 2014. Lotto's continued engagement with Strauss' orchestral works since the 2012/13 season seems to have resulted in a deeper understanding of Strauss' music as a whole, and has led to a high standard of performance throughout the series.
