The Tokyo Quartet is about to close its 44 years of activity in July 2013. In this memorable last year, a live recording of the 1971 recital at the Schwetzingen Festival will be released! The Tokyo Quartet, now known as one of the world's top-ranked groups, was a young up-and-coming group founded only two years ago.This recording was made at a time when the Tokyo Quartet was gaining attention after winning the first prize at the 1970 Munich International Competition, and features enthusiastic performances filled with youthful energy by the four founding members who made the name of the Tokyo Quartet famous around the world. In the Berg, the ensemble is brilliant and clear in capturing the complex structure of the music, while in the Bartók, the performance is lustrous and energetic! In Beethoven's String Quartet No. 10, also known as "Harp" because the pitch-cart of the violin in the first movement reminds one of a harp, the young musicians captivated with their fresh tone and lively expression. The following year, the quartet began recording Haydn's complete string quartets, followed by the release of the complete works of Bartók and Beethoven.The Tokyo Quartet has experienced several changes of members, but has always remained at the forefront as one of the world's leading string quartets. Now that the current members are coming to the end of their career, we can look back to the "origin" of the quartet and listen to this album with a sense of fulfillment. King International Inc.
