This is a must-have for fans of Berlioz, combining Cambrelin & SWR Southwest German Radio Symphony Orchestra's Overtures (old disc: 93 201) and Norrington & Stuttgart Radio Symphony Orchestra's live recording of the Symphonie fantastique (old disc: 93 103) into one gorgeous recording. The Symphonie fantastique was performed by François-Xavier Lotto & Les Siecle on ancient instruments, and it is still fresh in our memories, but the period performance by Norrington should not be forgotten when talking about "fantasy"! The recording in this issue is a live recording made in 2002, 15 years after the first period approach. Norrington's crisp conducting and the sound produced by the opposing arrangements are a unique feature of this recording. The Cambourin album, on the other hand, is a collection of short overtures.The program includes many familiar works such as "The Carnival of Rome" and "King Lear".
