Christmas Cantata by Johann Kuhnau, who served as Thomas Kantor as predecessor of the Great Bach! Johann Kuhnau was a composer in Leipzig during the German Baroque period and served as Thomas Kantor of St. Thomas Church in Leipzig as the predecessor of the Great Bach. His works have only recently been rediscovered, and their true greatness is still not fully recognized. However, he was highly respected by his contemporaries, not only as a musician but also as an erudite who held a doctorate, worked as a lawyer, and wrote satirical novels. His musical output must have been vast, but much of it is lost. The opening piece on this album, "Frohlocket, ihr Volker, und jauchzet, ihr Heiden," surpasses the great cantatas of his famous successors in its instrumentation and length (over 25 minutes), and the quality of his work is also evident in the second cantata, "Uns ist ein Kind geboren" (The Kind of Kind Geboren), which is a very beautiful piece of music, but it is not as well known as its predecessor, the "Kind of Kind" cantata, which is a very beautiful piece of music.
