Following the box set "Luther and Music (CHR 77403)" which compiles the music of Martin Luther and the Reformation, the second release for the 500th anniversary of the Reformation includes "Ein' feste Burg ist unser Gott" and other pieces by Telemann, which were composed for the anniversary of the Reformation and the feast of St. Michael. The "Ein' feste Burg ist unser Gott" and other festive cantatas composed by Telemann for the feast of St. Michael and the anniversary of the Reformation. Luther's hymn "God is my God" has been used by various composers, including J.S. Bach's Chorale and Mendelssohn's Symphony No. 5 "Reformation," but this is the world premiere recording of Telemann's magnificent orchestration of the festive cantata.
