I can't count the number of times I've spoken or heard about the love triangles of Robert Schumann, Clara Schumann, and Johannes Brahms, or Beethoven's "Immortal Beloved." Today, I think it is time to talk about other love stories that have had an equally great impact on the way these composers created their music. On this CD, we hear seven composers who could not be themselves in their daily lives. For them, the presence of a musical note was a refuge that revealed the essence of their feelings and freed them from words." --Kadush Popular French pianist David Cadouche will program works by composers who were homosexual, titled "Forbidden Love," to reveal the feelings they put into their notes. Wanda Landowska (1879-1959), the queen of the harpsichord, was instrumental in the 20th century revival of this nearly extinct instrument. She lived all her life with her assistant Denise Restout and studied composition with Heinrich Urban in Berlin.The anguish of a soul far removed from the interpreters of Bach and Scarlatti is expressed in a post-Romantic style. Smythe, who is best known as a British woman composer, was an activist in the women's liberation movement and fell in love with his teacher's wife, to whom he dedicated the "From a Young Day (Aus der Jugendzeit!!)" recorded here. (Aus der Jugendzeit!), which is included here. Kadusch's tone and descriptive powers shine through in these works, as well as in the richly sparkling poetry of the Variations by Szymanowski. MIRARE
