French clarinetist Raphaël Sever, born in 1994, attracted attention when he visited Japan in 2014 for the Forgeurne Festival. He and his partner, pianist Paul Montagu, have released an album of their 18th works. The album title is "On Tour" because of their frequent inclusion in the program. The album contrasts new treatments of folk music-derived material by Lutoslawski, Weinel, Bartók, and others with the urban Poulenc and Bernstein. Poulenc's sonata was written in his final years and premiered by Benny Goodman and Bernstein. Bernstein's sonata, on the other hand, was written in 1942 and was his first published work. The concert will be a great opportunity to enjoy the virtuosity of Sever, one of the most promising clarinetists of the 21st century. King International
