Burt Bacharach, Elis Regina, Hermeto Pascual ...... A superb crossover by South American jazz masters who have attracted numerous musicians! Born Héctor "Costita" Bignani in Buenos Aires, Argentina in 1934, he moved to Sao Paulo in the late 1950s and immediately established himself as a flute/tenor saxophonist. He has played with such renowned artists as Elis Regina, Hermeto Pascual, João Donato, and Gato Barbieri. He was invited by Sergio Mendes to join the Bossa Rio Sextet as his "sword in the heart" and attracted attention as a player of the jazz samba movement. His reputation spread beyond the seas, and world-famous musicians such as Michel Legrand, Lalo Schifrin, Burt Bacharach, and Ray Conniff began to call on him. His craftsmanship and exceptional taste, which passed through northeastern-derived baianese and Brazilian mellowness, have been highly acclaimed even in later years. As the title suggests, this is his leader album released in 1981, a collection of gems of rare grooves produced in the wind of crossover.This five-piece band, which invited renowned session musicians such as Gilceu Medeiros (dr.) and Humberto Bormikal (key.), is more jazz fusion than the Azimuths of the same period, and the content allows the audience to feel the competition between the players more closely. This is a good record that updates the path paved by the Tamba Trio and Tenorio Junior with the opulent sound of the 80's. This reissue is a joy!
