"Recreating the orchestral sound of Prokofiev on the piano, or relying on the fortepiano when performing Haydn, is a fascinating 'translation' process for me. My instrument is the piano, but I feel I embrace music not just through the keys, but in a much broader sense." The delicate, exceptionally clear and articulate tone he achieves in Haydn's Sonata in E minor recalls his mastery of both harpsichord and fortepiano. At times, its exquisite subtlety creates the illusion of listening to Couperin's harpsichord pieces.Prokofiev's "Satire" that follows also has Prokofiev's sound, yet Pleyel's sharp gaze, somehow reminiscent of Haydn's humor, shines through. The subsequent Sonata in B minor maintains its clarity while emphasizing a dramatic mood. And with "Romeo and Juliet," the tension reaches its climax, forming a program that constructs one grand narrative within a single disc. The title "Fortune's Fool" refers to Romeo's cry in Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet after he kills Tybalt: "O, I am Fortune's fool!"
