This 87th volume of the series features pianist Simon Callahan, who has unearthed many rare repertoire, for the fourth time in the series! This volume features rare piano concertos by Reinecke & Sauer. The remaining third piano concerto by Carl Reinecke, who will celebrate the bicentennial of his birth in 2024, is included in this release, after the release of the first, second, and fourth piano concertos by Simon Callahan in Volume 85 of the series (CDA68339). The "Konzertstück" for piano and orchestra is also included. Like Reinecke, Emil von Sauer was a German composer who studied under the late Franz Liszt, and is also known as a score reviser. The Piano Concerto No. 1 was performed by Stephen Hough on a disc (CDA66790) that won the Gramophone Award in 1996, and now the long-awaited release of the No. 2 is here. (Tokyo M-Plus)
