Onslo: A Performance on Gut Strings This is the second volume of Georges Onslow’s string quartets performed by the Ruggieri Quartet, a chamber music ensemble formed in 2007 by virtuosos who have played central roles in renowned ensembles such as “Les Tarans Lyriques” and “Amarilis.” This serves as a sequel, so to speak, to the previously released *Onslo: String Quartets*. Onslo was born in Clermont-Ferrand in 1784 and died there. Having never studied at a conservatory, and with his three operas failing to garner warm reception, he remained on the fringes of the mainstream. Labeled a “talented amateur,” he was long forgotten; however, his reputation is now rapidly rising. Onslo’s 12 string quartets were completed in 1814, and each is brimming with fluidity and elegance.
