One of the highlights is a collection of late sonatas by Nikolai Lugansky. The three sonatas of the Late Sonatas are highly musical and solitary music, distinct from the works of the Early and Middle Periods. Op. 101 (No. 28), with its use of fugue, is considered the gateway to the later period, with a content that sets it apart from the piano sonatas of the earlier period. Lugansky carefully attempts to depict the budding of Beethoven's rising art. The sonata Op. 109 (No. 30), which has a warm brightness as if a ray of light shines through, is a work that tests a performer's compositional skills, with its emphasis on the third movement, and once again, hats off to Lugansky's meticulously calculated construction skills. Op. 111 (No. 32) was composed in parallel with the "Ninth" and the "Solemn Mass," and is the final point in Beethoven's piano music.
