Ensemble Organum's 20+ year project, Mozarabic chant and the world of Islam, has finally seen the light of day! In 1997, Perez began a parallel exploration of the spiritual practices of the Mozarabic chants (chants of the Spanish Christians under Arab rule) and the Moroccan samaa (Islamic Sufi tradition of listening to music). ) began to explore the spiritual practices of the two religions in parallel. Aside from the differences between the two religions, Perez and his colleagues found much kinship between the two musical expressions. Through music, the idea of restoring the lost brotherhood of mankind was born, a truly utopian conception. On the recording, the opening of the disc begins with the chant "Love saves all," followed by the chant sung at the beginning of the Mozarabic liturgy, and then the music that calls out to those who are performing the Sufi ritual of prayer in Islam. The music is a mixture of Christian and Islamic music, but it reminds us that all human beings, regardless of age or religion, share the same desire for peace and tranquility.At the same time, this is a piece that makes one want to pay tribute to the labor of research and reading of materials by Perez and his colleagues, as well as their ability to perform a wide variety of music.
