Mahler 9 by Harding & Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra! Harding, born in 1975, has been the Music Director of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra for almost 10 years since 2007, and he has been overwhelming the world with his music, including Berlioz's Symphonie fantastique (HMC.902244/KKC.5669). In the 2016-17 season, he will also assume the position of Music Director of the Orchestre de Paris, a position he has held for the past ten years. The 9th Symphony is the last symphony Mahler completed by his own hand. The Ninth, Mahler's last symphony completed by his own hand, is a great work with many masterful performances, and Harding's music is calm and clear. Without getting bogged down in the grand narrative of the work, Harding effectively echoes the various detailed elements that Mahler wove into the work.Even in the last movement, which seems to be a long and continuous journey, the music seems to progress naturally without a single note of hesitation until the very end, drawing the listener in and not letting go. The orchestra and Harding are in perfect unison in this Mahler recording, and it is a disc that is sure to get a great deal of attention! King International
