Description:

The year 2015 marks the 400th anniversary of the death of Louis XIV (1638-1715), also known as the "Sun King" of France. In France, many events are being held in conjunction with this event, and this release is another notable release in honor of Louis XIV. Louis XIV ascended to the throne at the age of five, and during his 72-year reign, he ushered in the heyday of the dynasty, known as the "Grand Siecle. He was also the king who built the Palace of Versailles. Louis XIV encouraged ballet and was a master himself. 1651 (at the age of 13), he made his first stage appearance and 1653 (at the age of 15), he played his first leading role. It was in this "Ballet of the Night King" (the reconstructed version here is titled "Conseil Royal de l'Oeil") that he played his first leading role. It was performed on February 23, 1653, in the hall of the Petit Bourbon Palace. The year 1653 was the end of the Fronde Rebellion (1648-1653), the last rebellion of the nobility in 17th century France. Louis XIV, who had avoided the war, returned to Paris in the fall of 52, and his vizier Mazarin also returned to Paris in 53. In order to instill absolute monarchy and make the king's power known to the citizens of Paris and representatives of other countries, Mazarin organized the "Ballet des Nights of the King". The music, the libretto (the poems are by Isaac de Banslade, and are written to depict the various affairs between the monarch and his retinue, while allowing the king to shine as the supreme being), everything was designed to celebrate the arrival of Louis XIV, the "Sun King". The work begins with a four-part eve.Night 1 (18:00-21:00) = The bizarre underworld / Night 2 (21:00-24:00) = The love story under the patronage of Venus / Night 3 (24:00-3:00) = The story of "Moon" who returns to the world of night and forgets his real job because he is fascinated by his lover Endymion, and the strange sabbatical by demons and witches that unfolds in the world of the underworld. The third night (24:00-3:00) = the story of the "moon" who returns to the world of the night and forgets her real job because of Endymion, her lover, and the bizarre sabbat of demons and witches that unfolds in the world of the dark night/ The fourth night (3:00-6:00) = the story of Orpheus and Eurydice] Then comes the Grand Ballet "The Rising Sun" and the Sun King = Louis XIV appears with a ray of light so strong that even the Northern Lights are dazzled, and the curtain comes down. The curtain then rises on Louis XIV, who danced the leading role. In addition to Louis XIV, who danced the leading role, a total of nearly 60 dancers are recorded to have appeared in this production. As for the music, it seems certain that Cambouffol composed the arias that opened each eve of the festival, but there are no detailed records of the other music or the performers (it is thought that the musicians who always played at the royal court were sent out to play). The original booklet includes a Japanese translation of the synopsis and a memoir entitled "This Wonderful Adventure," which describes the research conducted by conductor Sebastien Doce, who set out to reconstruct the work to bring this spectacle to the modern audience. The 2000 film "The King Dances" also depicts the ballet, but of course that is only a small part of the story. This is only the music, but it is a complete and vivid performance of the work that had such a powerful impact on the people of that time. The astonishing power of this great spectacle, designed to impress a king in distant France more than 400 years ago, seems to show the fundamental power of French culture. King International
