Last album by the legendary pianist, who performed with his son and dedicated it to his beloved composer. The great Italian pianist Maurizio Pollini died on March 23, 2024, at the age of 82. This album, which he recorded with his son Daniele in June 2022, was Pollini's last recording. Included are three piano works by Schubert, each with a different aspect. The recording includes three piano works that show different sides of Schubert: Piano Sonata No. 18, "Musik und Drehkopf," and "Fantasy for Four Hands in F minor," the first recording of the two of them playing together. Schubert was a special favorite of both father and son, and this album was a project that they worked on wholeheartedly, rehearsing and performing together for the first time the melancholy "Fantasy in F minor," composed in 1828, the year of Schubert's death. The album created by two generations of musicians is both a legacy and a look of hope for the future. The recording was made at the Herkulessaal in Munich. My father's death has also changed my view of the conception of this album and the whole process of its creation.What I thought was a very special occasion actually turned out to be a unique event that can never be repeated. I am very happy to have had the opportunity to make this album dedicated to Schubert and to share in my father's last recording" (Daniele Pollini).
