A refined cello-and-guitar duo invites you into the world of Schubert’s songs German cellist Anya Lechner and Argentine guitarist Pablo Márquez met in 2003 through a mutual friend, the Argentine bandoneonist Dino Salusi, and have since explored a wide range of repertoire and expressive approaches in their concerts. On this, their first duo album, one can clearly discern the distinct tradition of lieder with guitar accompaniment—popular in 19th-century Vienna—when Lechner and Márquez perform the music of Franz Schubert. Many of Schubert’s lieder were published in versions with guitar accompaniment during the composer’s lifetime. In some cases, the guitar versions were published even before the piano versions. Interspersed throughout the recording are Friedrich Burgmüller’s (1806–1874) original works for cello and guitar, *Three Nocturnes*, which serve as a reflection on and commentary to Schubert’s spirit and lyrics. The album *Night* will be released to coincide with Lehner and Márquez’s European concert tour, which will take them through Germany, Austria, France, Hungary, and Romania. Universal Music/IMS
