Pellegrino & Zodiaco's new album "Koinè" interprets the desire to escape as an act of liberation and sets sail on a carefree journey in search of creative freedom. Conscious escapism is the act of getting closer to the heart of things. Inspired by the philosopher/neurobiologist/animal behaviorist Henri Laborit's (1914-1995) 1976 book Éloge de la fuite, the album combines Neapolitan roots with a global and contemporary musical vision, and is a "common language" (Koi). journey to discover a "common language" (Koinè). The melodic tradition is fused with disco, funk, jazz fusion, and world music, incorporating vintage instruments, ethnic percussion, and a Mediterranean air more richly and refreshingly than ever before. Pellegrino, a pioneer of the "new school" Neapolitan sound, continues on the path he took with Zodyaco I (2018), four years after his last album, Morphé (2020), and portrays the neo-standards of modern Naples. In a time when the music of the 80's as a consumer society is being reevaluated in every possible way, including sampling, we in 2025 accept escape as a means to celebrate happiness and survival and to continue dreaming, via the Mediterranean.
