Johnny Winter is a pioneer white blues guitarist. His hard-hitting blues-rock guitar won him many fans around the world, and this DVD is a collection of live footage from his peak years in the 1970s. Each show from 1970 features his brother Edgar Winter (key/drums/sax/voc), John Turner (drs), and Tommy Shannon (b), Tommy Shannon (b). The hit instrumental "Frankenstein," performed live on Danish TV, is a particular highlight, with Edgar switching from organ to drums midway through and engaging in a drum battle with Turner. Two songs from the 1973 Don Kirshner's Rock Concert, performed by the trio with Randy Joe Hobbs (b) and Richard Hughes (dr), are highlights of this album. Hughes' flamboyant twin drums, Hobbs' bass heavy bass, and Johnny's blues-rock guitar explode on this track! Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo" is a blaze of blues-rock, featuring Hughes' flashy twin drums and Hobbs' bass-heavy guitar.On "Walking Through The Park," recorded at the 1974 Chicago event live "Blues Summit in Chicago," Winter performed with a dream group of bluesmen who had interacted with him! Junior Wells (harp), Buddy Guy's brother Phil Guy (g), Buddy Miles of Jimi Hendrix's band (dr), and New Orleans heavyweight Dr. John (p) are also featured. The last song on the DVD is a blues tune by the trio of John Parris (b/harp) and Bobby Caldwell (drums). The video includes an interview with Winter conducted by Detroit Tubeworks in 1970. He talks about his musical sensibility and other topics in a frank manner.
