Even if you are not a Tempo fan, this is a great disc to have on hand. The LP version was released last year (2009), but there were many requests for a CD version, so this project has been realized for CD fans. The recent release of Zoot Sims' "Zoot Sims On Ducretet Thomson" on CD has been well received, so it seems that there was a push after that. Wilton Gaynor, a native of Jamaica, recorded this album at the age of 32, not an early age for a musician to record as a leader, but he had gained extraordinary experience and practice to get to this point, and his ability has become a solid track record. He is a great performer who can be likened to Rollins or Hodges, and he can easily improvise with emotion, and "Wilton's Wood" (M1) is a performance that is too good for him. M4 "Rhythm" is a practice track, but it was accidentally taped. M5 "Blues For Tony" is a blues dedicated to Tempo producer Tony Hall.How can I express my gratitude to Tony? His ennui-filled solos are exquisitely luminous. He moved to Germany and played mainly live, burning his soul with his ad-libs, which would disappear and flow again and again.
