Description:
Anders HILBORI(1954- ):. Contents 1. liquid marble 2. kvell (evening) Violin Concerto No.2 Performers Elbjerg Hemsin(Violin:2, 3) Hanna Holgesjon (Soprano:2) Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra Esa-Pekka Salonen(Conductor) [Recordings] January 18-19, 2024, Berwald Hall, Stockholm To celebrate the 70th birthday of contemporary Swedish composer Anders Hilborg, conductor Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, with violinist Elbjorg Hemsing and soprano Holgesjon as soloists, recorded Hilborg's works "Liquid Marble," "Kvel" and Violin Concerto No. 2. Anders Hilborg has become one of the leading classical composers of our time with works commissioned and performed by the Los Angeles Philharmonic, New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Berlin Philharmonic, Stockholm Philharmonic, and Carnegie Hall.He has performed with clarinetist Martin Frest, soprano Renée Fleming, violinist Lisa Batiashvili, violist Lawrence Power, and such luminaries as Esa-Pekka Salonen, Alan Gilbert, Gustavo Dudamel, and David Zinman. and David Zinman. In the orchestral work "Liquid Marble," he experiments with extremes. The rising cascade of notes in the introduction, the quick succession of strings and woodwinds, and the ecstatic ragtime episodes are just a few of the components of the work. As with many of his other works, he hopes to stimulate listeners with thought-provoking titles. Liquid Marble is a contradiction," he explains, "and I hope it evokes a connection to the music. Kvel, a work for violin, soprano, and orchestra, incorporates elements of folk music. Hilleborg's Violin Concerto No. 2 is a highly energetic yet contemplative work. The airy sound is accented by the insistent calls of the orchestra and soloist. The music is often dreamy, but also contains powerful rhythmic sections. His Violin Concerto No. 1 was released on Ondine with Anna Lindahl's violin solo and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra conducted by Salonen. Erbjörg Hemsing describes the appeal of this work and Hilleborg's music as follows: "I first encountered Hilleborg's world of sound. I first encountered Hilleborg's sound world several years ago and found it fascinating, beautiful, and exciting. Playing his Violin Concerto No. 2 is exhilarating. From the airy moments that you have never heard before to the impressive and catchy rhythm section, this concerto will envelop you and take you on an unforgettable journey. As a violinist, this concerto gives me new excitement and pleasure every time I play it. It was a highlight of my career to make this wonderful recording with Esa-Pekka Salonen and the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra." (Sony Music)
