Description:

The prodigious violinist Niklas Riepe has given a completely new design to a known work and brought it back to life in the modern age. His new challenge is Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons". Hamburg-based up-and-coming violinist Niklas Liepe and his brothers founded the "Liepe & Co. Festival" in a steel warehouse near Hanover's South Station in 2017, pushing the boundaries of classical music. The "Paganini Project," a release of arrangements by various contemporary composers, brings together various arrangements of the famous "24 Caprices," coexisting with foxtrot, tango, jazz, and an overflowing romanticism, while "Goldberg Reflections, With the addition of arrangements by Andreas Talcman and works by various contemporary composers, Bach's great variations are brought back to life in an exciting, new and colorful way. Riepe's latest album features a brand new arrangement of Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" in addition to a new work by Rachel Portman, known for her Oscar-winning film music compositions, "Tipping Points.Commissioned for this album, Portman's six-part suite for violin and orchestra, "The Tipping Point," in Portman's versatile brushwork, depicts the exceptional beauty of the four elements-air, earth, water, and fire-which are being invaded, and makes a plea for the preservation of our planet. Portman's work is paired with a poem by British writer Nick Drake about the global environmental crisis caused by climate change, and CD2 includes a performance of the poem with a reading by British actress Grainne Dromgoole. Also included are Portman's own newly arranged versions of three songs from his opera "The Star Prince" for violin and orchestra. The performance is by the WDR Radio Orchestra, conducted by Erina Yashima, currently the Kapellmeister of the Komische Oper Berlin. The second work on the album, also a world premiere recording, is a new "cinematic" orchestral version of Vivaldi's famous concerto cycle "The Four Seasons" by arranger/composer Wolf Kerschek. The packaging will be made of environmentally friendly paper and will be accompanied by a booklet with commentary on Portman's work by Nick Drake, Drake's poetry, and commentary on Vivaldi's work by Wolf Keszczek.
