Description:

The theme is "Europe's Common Musical Heritage." Nelsons and Capuçon make their double debut. Along with the New Year's Concert, the Vienna Philharmonic's signature event is the "Vienna Philharmonic Summer Night Concert," an open-air concert held at Schönbrunn Palace, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This year marks the first appearance of Andris Nelsons, Music Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra and the Leipzig Gewandhaus Orchestra, who also has a close relationship with the Vienna Philharmonic. This year's theme is "Europe's Common Musical Heritage. This year's theme is "Europe's Common Musical Heritage," which traces the rich tradition of developing a common musical heritage in individual countries and cultures through a diverse program of works from Beethoven to Enescu. The soloist in Saint-Saens' Cello Concerto No. 1 will be Gautier Capuçon, also making his concert debut. The Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra, which is giving its all in this open-air concert, will color the early-summer evening with its passionate performance.■Performer ProfileAndris NelsonsBorn in 1978 in Riga, Latvia, Andris Nelsons is a conductor.
