An acoustic piano trio featuring pianist Kevin Hayes, Ben Street on bass, and Billy Hart on drums. Three of the most admired and respected generations of jazzmen in jazz today gathered at the Smoke jazz club in New York City for a live streaming recording at the end of a desperate and difficult year. This remarkable work is a recording of a night in the streaming concert series commemorating the 80th anniversary of Billy Hart's birth! Pianist Kevin Hayes, acclaimed by Fred Hersch and Brad Meldor, was born in NY in 1968 and grew up in Connecticut. 6 years old, he started playing piano at the age of 15 and started playing professionally. After studying jazz at the Manhattan School of Music, he joined the bands of Benny Golson and Joe Henderson, and has performed around the world. 1994, he signed with Blue Note and released his first leader album, which was highly acclaimed by various media. He studied acoustic bass with his father, saxophonist Bill Street, and with Miroslav Vitous.He has performed and recorded with many well-known musicians, including John Scofield, Mark Turner, Ben Monder, Sam Rivers, and Billy Hart. He is well known for his solid playing. Billy Hart, 80 years old at the time of recording, is a veteran drummer still active today. In his early career, he played with Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Shirley Horn, and others. Later, he was a sideman with the Montgomery Brothers, Jimmy Smith, and Wes Montgomery's group. He moved to New York City and recorded with McCoy Tyner, Wayne Shorter, Joe Zawinul, and others, and performed with Eddie Harris, Pharaoh Sanders, Marian McPartland, and others. He was also a member of the Herbie Hancock Group. The album contains seven songs recorded with Kevin Hayes' original compositions. The performances are acoustic and beautifully simple. The album was recorded after only a few rehearsals with three members from various musical backgrounds. The album is highly complete, and one can feel the high level of the three musicians.
