Jazz legends Ron Carter and Al Heath join veteran guitarist Greg Scuff for this guitar trio work! The third installment of the Smoke Session label's SMKJ series, which features artists of note, features Greg Scuff, a talented guitarist who played with Stanley Valentine 35 years ago, backed Ruth Brown and Bobby Watson, and mainly played in organ trios with Mike LeDonne and Pat Bianchi. He has also played with Ruth Brown, Bobby Watson, and others, and has mainly played as a guitarist in organ trios with Mike Rudorn and Pat Bianchi. This latest release is a guitar trio featuring Ron Carter (b) and Al Heath-Albert "Tootie" Heath (ds), two very big-name sidemen. It is surprising that Scuff, a veteran guitarist, has never made an album in orthodox trio style with bass and drums. After playing as a member of B3 Organ Trio for a long time, it may have been natural for Skaff to make a trio album with bass and drums, which he could play freely and relaxedly in a sense.Al Heath is the youngest brother of Percy Heath (b), Jimmy Heath (ts), and the three Heath brothers. He has played with bass great Ron Carter many times on Wes Montgomery's albums and others. At the time of this recording, Al Heath was 85 years old and Ron Carter was 83, and it had been 30 years since they had performed together. Recordings will be made in February 2019 and March 2020; the NY lockdown will begin immediately after the second recording. The recording includes 11 songs. It begins with "Old Devil Moon," familiar from Sonny Rollins' Village Vanguard performance, and includes Ellington tunes, standards, and originals by Ron Carter and Gregg. All of the songs are enjoyable orthodox guitar trio playing. Mr. R.C." is a song dedicated to Ron Carter (Mr. R.C.), inspired by "Mr. P.C.," which Coltrane dedicated to Paul Chambers.
