Description:
In 2022, the 45th anniversary of their debut, the 40th anniversary of their first visit to Japan, and the 20th anniversary of Joe Strummer's death... The Clash will release a special 40th anniversary edition of "Combat Rock"! The original "Combat Rock" album was released on May 14, 1982 (Japan edition: May 30, 1982). This album was the last work by The Clash, consisting of Joe Strummer, Mick Jones, Paul Simenon, and Topper Heedon, and featured the band's best-known songs "Stay or Go" and "Rock the Casbah," fan favorites "Strait to Hell" and "The Curse of the Clash. Stray to Hell" and "Know Your Rights" (Claim Your Rights), both fan favorites. It was their biggest selling album to date and a worldwide hit, charting at #2 in the UK and #7 in the US. It was in 1981 that The Clash played 17 consecutive shows at the Bond's Casino nightclub in New York City. Soon after that pivotal performance, they returned to London to rehearse and record at The People's Hall in the Republic of Frestonia, a squatter's zone around Latimer Road. They then headed straight into a tour of East and Southeast Asian countries. The photo selected for the album sleeve of Combat Rock/The People's Hall was taken by Penny Smith in Thailand during the tour. Combat Rock/The People's Hall" will be a two-CD special edition that includes the original album on disc 1 plus disc 2 (12 tracks). Disc 2, "The People's Hall," documents the period from "Dis is Radio Crash," the last single for the four members, to the release of the "Combat Rock" album, and includes rare and previously unreleased tracks and early versions.Highlights of the disc include a new version of "Know Your Rights" (rights claimed), recorded at The People's Hall using The Rolling Stones' Mobile Studio, and the completely unreleased instrumental "He Who Dares or Is Tired". Other tracks include an unreleased original mix of "The Escapades of Futura 2000," "Futura 2000," Mikey Dread's "Radio One," previously titled "The Beautiful People Are Ugly Too," "The Beautiful People Are Ugly Too. The Fulham Connection," and "Idol in Kangaroo Court," among others. (1/2)
