BY ROYAL DECREE, the new album from The Flower Kings, led by Leine Stolt, an important figure in the Scandinavian progressive rock scene. Hailing from Sweden, Scandinavian progressive rock legends The Flower Kings have returned to the scene with their latest full-length album, "BY ROYAL DECREE". This is their third album with drummer Mirko DeMaio and keyboardist Zack Kamins in the lineup, and comes just one year and four months after their last album, "Islands. With virtually no targeted touring for the past two years, they were free to focus on recording new material and reviewing rejected material from previous sessions. Recording began in the summer of 2021 at Phoenix Studios in Sweden. The initial purpose was to test drive the new full analog Rupert Neve console, which had only been installed a few days earlier. The new album is a true "retro" work, and some of the material was even written before the Flower Kings recorded their first album in 1994. They have returned to the scene at their most creative, glittering, playful and quirky.The appearance reflects the melting pot of folk, symphonic, electronic, jazz, blues, funk, and 70's progressive music. While the new album aims for a more organic and vintage sound, its foundation remains the same: drums, bass, guitars, and the iconic Hammond organ, grand piano, and synthesizer mellotrons and mogues for which it is known. This album marks the return of founding member and Leune's brother Michael Stolt (Leune was born in 1956, Michael in 1964), who plays bass and vocals, and the rest of the lineup includes Mirko DeMaio on drums, Zack Kamins on keyboards, and Hasse Freberg on vocals and guitar, Reine Stolt on vocals and guitar, and Jonas Reingold on bass. Once again, Denver-based artist Kevin Sloan created the beautiful artwork. (1/2)
