The latest album by Sergio Azzolini, the bassoon prodigy of the ancient music world, is a collection of works by the fast and furious Czech composer Leopold Kojelf and his cousin Jan Antonin Kojelf. Includes world premiere recordings on period instruments! Jan Antonín Cogelf studied music in Prague before going to Vienna to study with Gluck and Florian Leopold Gassmann. After Gassmann's death, he became a pupil of Antonio Salieri, and later became Prague's court music director, serving as music director of Prague's St. Vitus Cathedral from 1784 and organist of the Strahov Monastery for almost 40 years. Among his works, church music directed toward his hometown is inscribed with novel and symphonic characteristics. From 1784, he also became a publisher of sheet music, and Mozart was one of the first to publish his works. Mozart also published works from his publishing house.After Mozart's death in 1792, he took on the dual role of Imperial Court Music Director and Court Composer, and wrote a vast amount of instrumental, chamber, and religious works as required. However, most of them are now forgotten, partly because they were so prolific that not only critics but also Mozart and Beethoven criticized the quality of his works as poor. However, his style influenced Beethoven and Schubert. The symphonies recorded here give a sense of the gale-like rush of "Mozart: Symphony No. 40," composed at about the same time. (1/2) Sony Music
