PICA PICA, a band with warm and tender melodies that touch the Japanese heartstrings, sunshine pop reminiscent of the American West Coast in the 1960s, and a traditional English folk sound, has released their debut full-length album on the prestigious RoughTrade label! The duo of Josienne Clarke and Samantha Whates of Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker, winners of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Award for Best Duo, deliver beautiful vocals, deep and powerful harmonies, and a sound that is both guitar and keyboard driven. The four-piece band features Adam Beattie on guitar/keyboards and Sonny Johns, a talented producer and engineer who has been nominated for everything from Grammy Awards to Mercury Awards and MOBO Awards, on bass. The album, completed a year and a half after the release of Spring & Shade, was produced by bassist Sonny Johns and is about health and heartache, spring and shade, love, loss, and life.Here is a tasteful debut album of 13 tracks, including the powerful precursor "Cast In Stone," released as a 12-inch prior to the album, and "Sucker Punch," whose delicate guitar playing stands out in the textures of the sound.
