New release from producer/singer/songwriter Helado Negro, who explores pop and Latin sensibilities! Producer Roberto Carlos Lange, whose parents are from Ecuador, South America, and whose roots are in Spanish-speaking local music under the name Helado Negro, releases his eighth full-length album "Phasor" on 4AD! The inspiration for the new album dates back to 2019, when he spent five hours at the University of Illinois observing (contemporary classical composer) Salvatore Matirano's SAL-MAR synthesizer. Lange recalls, "I was mesmerized by this synth." The album contains nine deep, atmospheric, meticulously crafted tracks, including the preceding single "LFO," sung in Spanish, and is reminiscent of 2019's This Is How You Smile, with an emphasis on groove, with drums and bass in the foreground. The album is a great example of the band's commitment to groove, with drums and bass front and center.In contrast to his previous work, Far In (2021), created in the isolation of the Corona disaster, Phasor is an homage to being outside again. It is a work that reminds us of the touch of the sun and warms our skin, a return to life.
