Description:
In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of Berlioz's death, Sony Classical and RCA have assembled a comprehensive collection of his best performances and recordings in this bargain box! Berlioz's music is a symbol of French Romanticism and has gained worldwide sympathy. His dramatic expressiveness and colorful orchestration in which a variety of instruments were used are said to have influenced many composers who followed. To commemorate the 150th anniversary of his death, this 10-CD box contains a selection of his most representative works, including orchestrations of ambition, originality, and groundbreaking brilliance, selected from the best Sony Classical and RCA recordings. The most significant contributions to the performance of Berlioz's works in recent 50 years are by Boulez, Munsch, Bernstein, Barenboim, Colin Davis, Seiji Ozawa, and others. Symphonie fantastique" and "Lelio" from the masterful performances that express the brilliant sound of the 1960s and early 1970s, when Boulez was at his most cutting-edge as a conductor. The "Requiem" featured in the season that marked the 20th anniversary of Seiji Ozawa's appointment as Music Director of the Boston Symphony Orchestra is a masterful performance that captures its dramatic nature. C. Davis, who has made the study of Berlioz's works his life's work, conducts the Staatskapelle Dresden in the "Overtures" with a deep sound and wonderfully well-crafted interpretation. Summer Nights" by John Nelson, also known as a contemporary Berlioz research conductor, combined with lyrical interpretation.Barenboim, who had just assumed the position of Music Director of the Orchestre de Paris in 1975, gave a bold interpretation of "Te Deum" that broke with previous interpretations. Bernstein's highly focused and skillful staging of "Harold in Italia" is a sweeping performance. The anthological masterpieces selected for this box include "Faust's Eternal Punishment" and "The Infancy of Christ," which bring out the best of Munsch's refined orchestration, classical appearance, and the beauty of the Boston Symphony Orchestra's resonance.
