Description:
Christoph Prégardien, a rare evangelical historian and a well-known German lieder singer, has recorded his first solo album with Deutsche Harmonia Mundi as a baritone. This is his first recording as a baritone. The album features two cantatas by Telemann and one by Bach, with orchestral works by Fasch, Telemann, and Handel. Telemann wrote more than 1,400 religious cantatas, many of them for solo baritone. It is said that this is because Telemann himself had a wonderful baritone voice. The "I will rejoice and bear my cross" is one of the most dramatic and well-known of Bach's cantatas. Pregardien has been active as a tenor singer, but in recent years, in addition to conducting, he has moved to baritone and has been trying his hand at lower-pitched works, and this album is his first as a baritone. This album is his first as a baritone.Having grown up listening to the famous recording of this Bach cantata by Fischer-Dieskau, it was a great challenge for me to sing this piece," he said. The convincing singing, which is typical of Prégardien, is impressive, as is the intense descriptive power of his portrayal of Christ on the way to the cross and his longing for the coming of the Christ. The Vox Orchestra, an up-and-coming German period orchestra, sings the chorus part in the finale of Bach's cantata, with members of the orchestra coached by Pregardien. The orchestra is conducted by its founder, Lorenzo Ghirlanda. <Christoph Pregardien studied at the University of Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt, Milan, and Stuttgart from 1977. While a student, he won the first prize at the German Radio Music Competition. Since then, as an outstanding lyric tenor, he has performed with many famous conductors such as Leonhard, Brüchen, Koopman, Herreweghe, Gardiner, and Arnoncourt. He is highly acclaimed for his Baroque, Classical, and Romantic operas, oratorios, Passions, and lieder, and his performances as an evangelical historian, especially in Passion pieces, have won him critical acclaim around the world. In addition, in her lieder with Andreas Steier on fortepiano and Michael Goeth on piano, she delivers masterful singing backed by deep musicality.
