A beautiful fusion of traditional chant and electro-acoustic! When William of Wycombe founded Winchester College in 1382, sixteen boy sopranos known as "quillistas" were provided to sing chapel services. For more than 600 years it has maintained the foundation of medieval and renaissance choral singing, and today it is noted for its excellence and diversity, centered on a thriving tradition. The choir sings services in this chapel with full chorus, and its musical director is Malcolm Archer, a well-known organist, conductor, and composer, and former director of music at St. Paul's Cathedral. Malcolm Archer was eager to extend the wonderful singing of "Quiristas" to his audience and invited composer & producer David Loll Perry to create a new, contemporary arrangement of the traditional chant. The project began with the complex task of recording the songs of the "Quiristors" in the College Chapel, a 14th century building, to overcome its wonderful and unique acoustical and reverberation problems.Perry's goal was not to dominate centuries-old traditional melodies, but to add intimacy and create a sound that "echoes admiration." He built a sound that signified a "musical journey" into each piece to maintain the traditional structure and lyrical narrative, and fused it with the latest 2017 production techniques of "electro-acoustic" for cutting-edge, heavenly music, to create an album where the music is played in a way that highlights the wonderful voices of the The result is an album that will make your voice stand out.
