The deeply musical Chopin of Eric Roux, winner of the 2018 Leeds International Piano Competition Young pianist Eric Roux, born in 1997, began playing piano at the age of six and enrolled at the Curtis Institute of Music, where he studied with Jonathan Biss and others, and with Dan Tai Son, and at the age of 17 he won the fourth prize at the International Chopin At the age of 17, he won the fourth prize at the International Chopin Competition. He then made a name for himself by winning the Leeds International Piano Competition in 2018. In the album commemorating his victory at that time, you can hear Chopin's Piano Sonata No. 2 and Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4. His unique expression, which makes full use of delicate sounds and deep musicality, sets him apart from other young players. This album features Chopin's "24 Preludes," Brahms' Interlude Op. 117-1, and Schumann's "Theme and Variations," WoO 24, a selection of pieces that allow the listener to listen closely to his characteristic "inner voice. The main piece, "24 Preludes," is heavy and heavy-sounding from the beginning, and he takes his time in playing the first piece, which many pianists play lightly.In the following piece, No. 2, the twists and turns of sound created by the dissonance create a mysterious atmosphere. From then on, Roux played each piece with great care, showing us a world of transformations. The quiet Brahms gave us a breather, followed by Schumann's last work, "Theme and Variations," a performance that could be described as a dialogue of the heart. 22 years old and still showing such expressive power, Roux is a promising talent.
