Up-and-coming Belfiato Quintet plays works by native Czech composers!The Belfiato Quintet, an up-and-coming woodwind quintet based in the Czech Republic as of 2017, has recorded works by native Czech composers Josef Bohuslav Ferstel, Pavel Haas and Janacek. Verstel (1859-1951) taught at the Hamburg Conservatory, the New Conservatory of Music in Vienna, and the Prague Conservatory, and his students included many Czech composers of the 20th century. He is known to have been introduced to Mahler and his music in Hamburg and later became a follower of Mahler, composing Romantic national music in all genres. This woodwind quintet is also one of Verstel's masterpieces. The Belfiato Quintet's intelligent interpretation of his native country's works will be performed with reverence.
