Many special guests including members of the popular London brass septet "Septura"! The quintet was praised by the late British trumpet legend Philip Jones, who said, "Bravo, Onyx! The Onyx Brass, a British brass quintet formed in 1993, is a British brass quintet composed of leading players from the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, English National Opera, English Chamber Orchestra, and Royal Ballet Sinfonia. The quintet is a British brass quintet composed of first-rate players who have performed on the front lines of the English National Opera, the English Chamber Orchestra and the Royal Ballet Sinfonia. Following "Fugue" (CHAN10462) and "Fanfare" (CHSA5221), the third release from Chandos is a program in the German Romantic tradition. The only original work for brass is "Festive Music of the City of Vienna"; the rest are 2020 arrangements for small ensemble of works by Schumann, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Rubinschein, and Franz (all world premiere recordings).Inspiration for this recording project came from a collection of rare letters from Schumann, Brahms, Mendelssohn, and others in a collection of correspondence held by a relative of tuba player David Gordon-Schutte. The booklet includes images of some of these letters. The two large-format Richard Strauss works will be conducted by the ever-increasingly popular Maestro John Wilson, with members of the "Septura" brass septet, a group of talented musicians who are principal players with leading British orchestras such as the London Symphony Orchestra, Philharmonia Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and BBC Symphony Orchestra.
