Robert Muller-Hartmann, a composer active before and during the war! The ARC Ensemble (Artists of The Royal Conservatory), Canada's foremost cultural ambassadors, focuses its "Music in Exile" series on the study and revival of music that was suppressed under the totalitarian regimes of the 20th century and has remained marginalized ever since. The series has featured Ben-Haim (CHAN 10769), Fittelberg (CHAN 10877), Simon Lax (CHAN 10983), Kaufmann (CHAN 20170), Klebanov (CHAN 20231), Albert Hemusi (CHAN 20231), and Albert Hemsi (CHAN 20243)," for a total of six volumes released. Robert Müller-Hartmann (1884-1950) was born in Hamburg, Germany. He studied in Berlin for four years before returning to Hamburg. There, he combined his education with a successful career in composition. His works were regularly performed on the radio, conducted by Carl Schuricht, R. Strauss, Otto Klemperer, and others.Around 1933, National Socialism forced him out of his university and conservatory teaching position, but he continued to teach at the Jewish Girls' School in Hamburg, and in 1937 he went to England, where he lived in seclusion as an exiled German musician and his works were forgotten. This album collects works composed before 1937 and includes pieces from his active years as a composer. Tokyo M-Plus
