Peter Donohoe is a famous British pianist who is highly acclaimed for his musicality, stylistic versatility, and superb technique. Following "Mendelssohn: Silent Songs Vol.1" (CHAN20252) as a collection of solo piano works, he has started recording Grieg's "Lyric Pieces"! Donohoe says he was fascinated by Grieg's natural ability to create impressive melodies, his unique harmony, and his emotional naivete. Like Mendelssohn in the previous album, Donohoe says that performing and recording Grieg's piano works was a return to the origins of his own musicality and a great joy for him. The first collection contains 27 freely selected pieces from the 10-volume "Lyric Pieces," which consists of 66 pieces.Peter Donohoe, who has a unique background as a percussionist in his youth, studied piano in Paris with Yvonne Loriot and Olivier Messiaen, and won a prize at the Leeds International Competition in 1981 and the highest prize at the Tchaikovsky International Competition in 1982. The booklet (in English, German, and French) contains Donohoe's own thoughts and memories about Grieg, in addition to a commentary on the work. Tokyo M-Plus
